The late afternoon sun was shining brightly, it's rays filtering through the summer leaves making everything glow in a golden haze.
After the wedding preparation, ceremony, pictures, and reception were over and done with, the newly-wed couple decided to relax at a nearby park before heading off on their honeymoon. The excitement from the day had tired them out.
As they were strolling through the park the bride spoke, "Joseph, I don't know how we're going to do this."
"Why do you say that?"
Giving him "a glare of annoyance", Rosy replied, "Because you heard what the older couples said to us, ""Marriage is tough, deal with it!" "There are going to be days when you'll really love or really hate each other." "Hope you don't regret it." etc, etc, ETC! I'm sick of it!" She spat the last part out with anger in her voice.
Half-smiling Joseph gave his shoulders a shrug, "So what? We knew what we were getting into when our relationship started. We've made our choice and now we have to live with it."
He pointed toward the slanting sun, "Life goes on. Sometimes I wonder if we're part of the greatest comedy show ever and we're just not realizing it."
Joseph paused, then continued.
"I know there's a reason why we got married. How we ended up together I'll never know. I don't think it was because we were pressured by our peers or couldn't do our jobs right without each other, but it had something to do with God's will for us."
Smacking the back of his head, and him laughing it off, Rosy replied, "Suuuure, but the fight's not over yet."
"Nope, for us it's just beginning."
Seeing a ramp that led into the pond, Joseph turned to Rosy. "Take off your shoes."
"Are you NUTS?! These aren't even mine! My sister's gonna freak if I lose them."
"So? We'll just buy her a better pair."
"You know, I have every nerve to do something to you."
"What?"
"This."
Rosy turned his chin towards her and looked straight into his eyes. Joseph figured what would happen next and got ready for it. Instead while having him under her trance, Rosy brought up both her hands at the sides and playfully smacked his cheeks together.
"Ow!"
"Ha, all better!"
Giving her a quizzical look, Joseph acknowledged her cleverness. "Well played, Rosalyn Eve Henry. Now it's my turn."
Before Rosy could react, Joseph quickly scooped her up into his arms and carried her off toward the ramp. It wasn't until his feet touched the wooden boards when his plan finally dawned on her.
"Put me down NOW! Or so help me I'll-" *SPLASH*
After dumping her off the ramp, Joseph wasn't too worried. After all it was shallow water and Rosy could swim.
Immediately she surfaced back up from the murky waters, and so did her temper.
"JOS-cough-EPH! You- cough- MORON!"- cough, cough
Rosy reached back into the water, pulled off her wedding shoes, brought them back to the surface, and flinging them over her shoulders stated, "Forget these, YOU'RE NEXT once I get my hands on you!"
Joseph broke out laughing. "Just try."
After splashing him with water from below, Joseph consented and willingly jumped into the water.
When the waves from the splash settled down, Rosy pounced from behind him and in that moment they played together like young children again.
The bystanders were.... surprised as they watched. But after staring and exchanging glances with each other, they went about their daily lives.
When their playful fight was over, Joseph and Rosy made their way back to shore.
"I still hate you."
"That's good. At least you still care."
Rosy rolled her eyes. "I can never win with you can I?"
"No you can't. You know why?" Joseph stopped dead in his tracks and looked at her. "Because you're the missing rib from my rib-cage. I choose you because you're mine." His eyes were ablaze with a fiery light, and Rosy's respect for him grew even more.
"Why yes, O great one!" she said as she bowed mockingly. "And when we get to the hotel in our wet clothes, I'll be the first one to take a shower."
"We'll see." Taking hold of her hand Joseph said, "One more jump off the pier? Whoever touches the water first gets to take the shower."
Grinning, Rosy answered, "You're on."
She broke their grip, and picking up the wet folds of her dress she hurriedly went toward the ramp. Joseph quickly caught up with her, took hold of her hand again making Rosy hold the front of her dress with her other one and together they raced on the ramp, having flashbacks from the day they met to that moment.
As their feet left the pier and jumped into a world of many adventures, they embraced the fact that their lives were predestined by the will of their loving and almighty Father, and that they had been brought together under His perfect timing.

I don't write short stories very much, but I thought I'll share this one with you all.
